High School Program

Providing scholarships to high school students is an essential part of SOAR scholarship program. SOAR scholarship recipients are those students with academic excellence who lack the funding to continue their high school education or vocational school education. Once awarded, the students will be sponsored $450/year for three years while in good academic standing. Students will be eligible to apply to the SOAR college scholarship if they are admitted to an accredited college or vocational college upon high school graduation.

How Application Forms are Distributed

Each year, SOAR sends out scholarship applications to students recommended by designated nominators who work in the school systems in underdeveloped counties in China.  Applications are collected in SOAR’S Beijing office and then forwarded to our U.S. headquarters.  The awarded students will receive their scholarships from the Beijing office via direct bank deposits to the students’ bank accounts.  Students are required to send receipts back to SOAR once they receive the funds.

How Applications are Evaluated

A complete application package includes application form, academic report cards, personal essay, recommendation letters from two school teachers, and evidence of family financial hardship. The applicants may also provide any supplementary materials such as award certificates and writing samples.  Applications are reviewed by the SOAR scholarship committee.
